Here you'll find links to property descriptions and rates for hundreds of hotels, inns, condominiums, apartment buildings, studios and efficiencies throughout Paris, offering all levels of luxury and conveniences. Paris hotels perfectly mirror the diversity of the city, running the gamut from palaces fit for a sultan to ramshackle hideaways of oddly angled rooms and irregular plumbing. In between these two extremes you'll find a large selection of comfortable and affordable hotels, many of them small, family-run establishments.
Keep in mind that more than 18 million tourists visit Paris each year, so advance planning is recommended, particularly during "high season". The Paris season is a strange one and worth consideration if you seek the best value: May, June, September and October are the hardest months to find rooms. Prices often go down in July and August, particularly in the 3-star establishments which are sorely missing their business clientele at that time. The downside to a summer visit is that the city can be stifling, with a high proportion of Parisians having fled to the countryside for vacations, leaving many businesses closed.
Choosing your base quartier can be tricky, since every part of Paris has its advantages and disadvantages, its charms and its horrors. Thanks to Paris' compact geography and its tightly knit system of efficient public transportation, you'll never be more than 10-20 minutes from principal attractions and shopping, even in the "outskirts" of the city.
If you want to revel in the lap of luxury, head straight to the 8th arrondissement (Champs-Elysées, avenue George V, avenue Montaigne, Faubourg St-Honoré and surrounding streets) for the highest concentration of 4-star establishments, de rigueur if you need to pop out for a fitting at Dior's, pick up some presents at Hermès or impress your business acquaintances. Following closely on the heels of the 8th for luxury is the 1st (Tuileries, Louvre, Place Vendôme), though you'll find a sprinkling of 2- and 3-star hotels on the side streets.
The 2nd arrondissement boasts a large number of mid-priced hotels, catering largely to the business community centered on the banks and the Bourse. Adjacent to the 2nd is the 9th (Opéra, Grands Boulevards, Faubourg Montmartre), where you'll find the highest concentration of hotels of any arrondissement, and more than half of them are budget 2-star establishments.
The area most visitors head for with alacrity is the Rive Gauche (Left Bank), the 5th, 6th, and even 7th arrondissements. Less business-oriented and more vieux Paris, the Quartier Latin and St-Germain-des-Prés host many reasonably-priced 1-, 2- and 3-star hotels, as well as some fairly basic student hotels, due to the proximity of various colleges and the university.
