Near the village château, the small Absinthe Museum contains publicity posters and other Belle Epoque artifacts evoking the history of absinthe -- a forerunner of today's anise-based aperitifs like Ricard and Pernod. Before it was banned in 1915 because of its negative effects on the nervous system, absinthe was France's national drink. A famous painting by Edgar Degas shows two absinthe drinkers; van Gogh also probably downed a few glasses at the Auberge Ravoux in town.
